Pre-birth AcupuncturePre-birth acupuncture refers to a series of acupuncture treatment in the final weeks of pregnancy to prepare women for childbirth.

Weekly acupuncture treatments from week 36  to week 39 or until delivery promote a healthy and natural birth. A set of points are normally used, possibly with additional points chosen to deal with presenting problems such as emotional distress, insomnia, or posterior positioned babies.

 

Benefits of pre-birth acupuncture

  • Encourage babies to turn into a good position for labour
  • Help cervix soften and dilate
  • Increase the chances of a natural efficient labour
  • Shorten the length of time that women spend in labour
  • Reduce the rate of intervention (medical induction, caesarean section)
  • Provide relaxation, boost energy
